The Immersive Storytelling Symposium

(Registration for this event is required)

The New School, University Center (63 Fifth Avenue)

Sunday, Feb. 5th, 2017

Please join Parsons School of Design at The New School for a one-day symposium about the explosion of affordable virtual and augmented reality technologies. The event will take a critical look at the impact of new mass media technologies such as the Gear VR/Oculus Rift, Google Daydream/Cardboard, HTC Vive, MS Hololens and their “immersive” effects on theater, games, news, and entertainment.

Are these technologies as disruptive as the mobile phone? Are they accessible to all voices of the social spectrum? How are these media affecting the form of stories as they shift from passive to the self-directed exploration? Claims about the medium’s empathic effects abound but are they inciting viewers to action? How can we use these media to transform the learning experience in educational settings, in particular in art and humanities classes?

Presented by the Schools of Art, Media and TechnologyDesign Strategies, and Fashion.
