The symposium encompassed panels, discussions and demonstrations on the explosion of affordable virtual and augmented reality technologies. The event took a critical look at the impact of new mass media technologies such as the Gear VR/Oculus Rift, Google Daydream/Cardboard, HTC Vive, MS Hololens and their “immersive” effects on theater, games, news, and entertainment.
“Could VR not only let us experience the effects of different bodies but actually be the first step to inhabit difference beings—if temporarily?” Macklin asks.
